MODS #6 - Cold Ashby revisited June 19th
MODS #6 - Cold Ashby revisited June 19th
MODS#7
Back at Cold Ashby with a slightly rejigged course, we will be playing down the mountain on hole 16 with an extended 15 turning into a par 4. Hoping to use the lake as hole 18 and getting rid of one of the filler holes to make this a truly epic beast of a course.
It should be the grand opening tournament for the course, thrashing out the details over the next couple of weeks. There will be a large media push before and after.
Course will be open to play probably Friday and Saturday afternoon/evenings - green fees will apply.

Sign up sign up.
Looks like we will be able to camp at the course Saturday night. If you fancied making a weekend of the 19th it's Sian Lee's birthday celebrations so it would be great to come and join her. Fully stocked bar open till 11 ish, a fantastic course to play saturday afternoon, camping and then the competition on Sunday. What more could you want?

Re: MODS #6 - Cold Ashby revisited June 19th
the great news confirmed on Friday - this will be the Grand opening event of the Cold Ashby Disc Golf Course.
There will be a press release going out this week and we would love to get as many people out to the competition as possible.
I had a last scout around the MODS course layout on Friday and it was looking stunning.
We will remove hole 10, the one around the path, and add in instead hole 15 a 200+ meter downhill par 3 - easily aceable.
The hole before - old 15 - will become a par 4 playing up the golf tees, to have any chance of a a 3 you will need to attack across the OB stream onto the old green - the tee will be moved forwards slightly to make this more achieveable
After looking at it again, I'm not having a drop zone on 7 - i can handle people having an easy putt for the OB 3, I want them to go for the long ace run - love the hole as it is, the tee will be moving back slightly onto the cut grass out of the rough. Still easily within range with a putter or mid.
the tee of 18 is being moved slightly so taller players are not disadvantaged (sorry Ivan! i realise I need to take my midgtetness into account for future designs!). Unfortunately we still aren't being allowed to use the lake as the finish hole - one day Rodders, one day!
I want to say a huge thank you to the 40 players involved last time - pat yourselves on the back for the way you went about the day as it had an effect on this course being installed. There have been some issues between the regular golfers and the footgolfers at Cold Ashby but the owners had members coming up to them to sing the praises of how the Disc golfers had conducted themselves and to suggest that maybe Disc Golf would be a better fit.
The course will be open to play in the late afternoon (2 or 3 onwards)/evening on Friday and Saturday (when the golf loop is closed)
We will be able to camp at the course on Saturday night at £5 a head, there is a wedding going on in the function room Saturday night so we will probably pitch tents at the top of the drive rather than by the clubhouse. The bar and restaurant will be open separately till late and then the clubhouse reopens at 7 in the morning. Please let me know in advance if you plan to camp. payment will be straight to Cold Ashby on the day.
Food options will be the same as last time, order and pay in the morning before the round. There will be breakfast available in the clubhouse from 7 onwards.
The lunchtime event will be a basket pyramid shootout. 3 on the bottom, 2 on the middle, 1 on the top and then a Precision basket at the top. Players will have three discs each 2 points for the bottom 3, 5 for the middle, 10 for the top and 25 for the precision.
Big giveaway time! If you get a disc in the precision basket you will win an MVP Black Hole Pro Basket worth £169.99 (if more than one player achieves this there will be a playoff for the basket)
The current plans for the course at Cold Ashby will be 3 different loops, a beginners course, a white level course and then the longer blue level course which will be almost the MODS course we will play on the 19th. For the times the course is closed (mornings for golf) I am planning a 6 hole short course around the clubhouse and surrounding area so Disc golf should always be playable. Discs will be hired out from the clubhouse. I'm also hopeful of having hole 3 play through the woods by the stream rather than the fillerish hole at the moment up on top. Will need a few trees cutting but I think there is a good hole in there.
I also have a Gold level course in mind for future events where the footgolf can be closed for a weekend.
Any questions please let me know - please sign up before this Thursday if you can so I have plenty of time to order prizes.

Will you be in attendance? I'll pack extra fish fingers if so.

Re: MODS #6 - Cold Ashby revisited June 19th
Still time to sign up for this sundays event - the more the merrier, we are expecting a field of around 40 but hoping for 50, if you are sitting on the fence, get off it and come and play!
Baskets have not arrived as expected for the basket pyramid so that will have to roll to another one, there are some big guns in attendance at the event so we may have another long drive comp instead.

Sy Spencer was wanting to come up if he could get a lift with someone, It's a pretty easy drive from London straight up the M1 and would love to see a Croydon car load up there! Someone must have a free sunday that can help Jester and Sy out!
