Glee play disc golf in Harrogate!

Post by BOF » Wed Jun 22, 2011 8:03 pm

Apparently Finn and Puck from 'Glee' drove over from Manchester (where they start their tour imminently) yesterday to play disc golf at the course at my school. No-one knew, they didn't e-mail to ask or check if it was open for play - they just turned up!
Some of our boarding students recognised them and word spread quickly via Twitter and Facebook! They found the course on a google search and just came over to play.
If only they'd e-mailed me first, they could've rubbed shoulders with a British Open Finalist!

They bring their own and are always on the lookout for a course. They drove over from Manchester just for an hour's worth of golf. Good on 'em.
Now, if they'd only contacted me first, I could have shown them around and tagged along for a friendly 9-holes!
Maybe if they visit the website again they can e-mail me and we can hook up on another occasion...

If they had done a bit more research they would of found a course 17 miles closer.

It suggests the BDGA course directory could do with an update.

apaarently one of them had an App on his iPhone and found the Ashville College course via that route. I guess being on the road an App of that sought makes sense to a Disc Golfer.

Apps are brilliant when designed for a specific purpose, and a course directory would obviously be a great app to have.

The only small drawback is the ammount of effort it now takes to produce and manage something like this. Given the proliferation of devices and their different opperating systems (Apple, Andriod, Blackberry, Windows etc) the number of versions that would need to be produced - and supported ongoing - has a dramatic impact on the resourced needed.

An excellent middleground is to produce something that works well on web and can be browsed via a mobile device. I'm going to start a new thread on this a let others get on with the more important discussion of Glee.

would it be a good idea to forward this item onto the PDGA for inclusion in next weeks PDGA Disc Golf Weekly Update?
