Euro Championships 2009

Post by BOF » Thu Nov 06, 2008 8:15 pm

Can anyone tell me what the entry requirements are for Euro 2009 and where/when it might be? As well as planning my British Tour calendar for 2009 I need to think about trying to squeeze in a tournament abroad. The more information I can take the the head honcho the better!
Regards

There is no Euros in 2009, the next one is 2010. As always, position in Powerstats in the preceding season will determine the selection.

Although it hasn't been finalised yet, I hope that each country will be allowed the freedom to assign places between divisions this time

*mental note*

Must try and play well in '09 to have any chance of making the Euros in '10

Am I missing something or was there some large, European tournament in the summer of 2007 also? Or is that called the European Open or something? What was this thread http://bdga.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=350 about? Is there not a major European tournament each year?
Thanks in advance.

The Euro champs was every 2 years, Whitcombe 03, Tampere 05, Belgium 07.

The European Open was every 2 years, starting in 06, but this clashed with the Japan Open which is also on the even numbered years. So a decision was made to switch them around, and instead of having a three year gap, we went for consecutive years, hence an Open in 07 and Germany 08.

Now that's been done, the Open will be in 09, and the Euros in 10 with both back on their 2 year cycle.

To forestall your next question, the Open is invitation only, usually based on performances in EuroTour events or major US events. Hasn't been confirmed for 09 yet, but here is how they were offered in 07: http://www.opendiscgolf.com/?page=qualification

I knew Bruce would forestall me, so I didn't bother asking the question. It's like I can predict the future or something! Amazing!

Maybe to play good DG you have to be able to predict the future ... which I can't do ... :(
