British Open Travel Thread

Post by bruce » Thu Jul 13, 2006 10:04 am

Thread for anyone looking for lifts to/from the British Open.

Mostly for European players to arrange lift sharing/travel buddies.

On behalf of Thomas Kies:

Cool that the tournament is next week already. I'm looking at flying into Stansted via Ryan Air on Thursday evening. Plane arrives around midnight. Do you know of anyone else making their way to the tournament via Stansted so I could get a ride with someone to Beamster on Friday? I could travel to London and then meet up with someone there if that would also be a possibility. Let me know as soon as you can.

Perhaps Jim would be willing to pick my up for a glass of honey???

Cheers,

Thomas

London to Beaminster?

Post by Kansas » Thu Jul 13, 2006 2:10 pm

What's the best way to get from London to Beaminster?
There are three of us, we were told to train from Waterloo was the best method?
- Anyone got room in their car for three American blokes on Friday morning?

The train is best assuming you can't get a lift with someone. Most of the London golfers are heading down early to help out with the course prep.

There might be someone from Essex who can help you out, but the train isn't too much hassle, and is probably faster!

Nuts, I meant to say, if you're getting the train, you can look up timetables here:

www.nationalrail.co.uk

Waterloo to Crewkerne is direct and takes 2 hours 30 minutes

There are trains from Watello to Crewkerne at:
0820, 1020

A saver return costs £42.50

You can book online on the www.nationalrail.co.uk or buy on the day (it will be the same price, I think).

Of course, if someone gives you a lift, that's better! You may find hiring a car is handy; which airport are you comnig into?

(I would recommend the train - if you're staying in Beaminster, you won't need a car, and the traffic in the South of England is a pain!)

See you next weekend,

Andy

Not sure we have enough room for 3 people all in one car, i will check with some other locals making the trip but i do think all cars are full, where in London will you be? If you are central, the train is by far the easiest option for all concerned and we could arrange a pick up from Crewkerne station to the course/accommodation.

I'm going EARLY on Saturday from London, but I'll be driving back on Sunday evening to London, and I'll have three spots in the car then.
