BDGA #3- The Battle at Bluebell Woods

Post by seamus » Tue Dec 31, 2013 8:19 pm

Hello
The registration is now live for Bdga Tour #3 The Battle at Bluebell Woods.
The course is in great shape for the event, it will be a fair challenge for all. The wakeboarding park will be closed but the amenities will be available, and we will be utilising more of the lake in the course design. On the Open side of this event we have £150 added to the pro purse and will use the Pdga payout table. For the Am side we have an awesome players pack equal to your entry fee. Over the next two months I will update our website with photos and any last minutes additions.
Our accommodation offer is still a work in progress, I'll have an answer soon, just waiting on a few details. As it stands we will offer Bellhaven Caravan and Camping for your slumber, they have 3 to 4 houses to rent that sleep 8 for £70 a night (that's 70 divided by 8 ). Bellhaven Caravan and Camping is halfway between the Dunbar train station and the course for those who have been here before, its on the #120 Bus route and probably 2 miles from the course. I'm working on a player discount and prize offer for players, stay tuned.
The Maple Hill Open Qualifier portion of the event is the first of its kind in Europe. The Maple Hill Open (formerly The Vibram Open) is a premiere event on the world disc golf stage. I cannot guarantee it but I will work very hard to make sure anyone who earns these treasured spots has accommodation for the event. Also you would be the first international player to enjoy the tournament and may have celebrity status. I was involved with this event since its inception, (2004 MSDGC) the event is a disc golf pilgrimage, earn it and enjoy.

I just hope the Bluebells are out!

Great Job Seamus - but the chances of Bluebells in Scotland in March ? Let's just say any bookmaker would be keen to take your money from you! Ours come out mid April in Suffolk......but, with climate change, who knows early!

AWESOME :D

Being half Scotish yet never having been even close to the border let alone across it, I'm seriously looking forward to this one! I also just took a quick gander at the camping site's website and that definitely looks like a good shout so would be really interested to hear more abouts the details when you get them.

That's pretty funny Paul, if you read it literally you get three quarters of a house for £0.11428571.(I'll go back and edit the math error) You've got a better chance of Bluebells in March! Just be aware I did not say "sleeps comfortably"...... I'll post all the info once they get back to me.

Anybody who sells confirms they are a Bagger is alright! C'mon up!

All Maple Hill Open Qualifiers will now include an invite to the top three players that opt in. Steve wrote " The goal here is to get more qualified players into the event (since not everyone who earns a spot is able to play in the event)" Thanks Steve.

Thanks Seamus, it's more that I was being called it so much I simply embraced it. I personally believe it's not nearly warranted lol

Also...I was just looking at the registration page and there's a higher fee for AdAms than for IntAms and wanted to ask what happens should I actually be able to achieve my goal of hitting AdAm? Would I simply be able to pay the extra £5 on the day?

Ah ok,cool. No need for me to worry then.

Also, I'm not trying to grow up too fast, it's just that I want a goal to aim for and over-reaching or not, an 870 rating is currently it. Also I keep getting grief from certain people *cough* Neal Clifton & *cough* Robb Hamilton, to move on up so right now I'm planning on playing Bristol as an IntAm and maybe QP too. I'll then see where I am and make a decision as to what to do for Dunbar. Besides, if it all goes wrong I can then blame it on peer pressure! lol

Hey Robb. Yes I am certainly planning on going and would be more than happy to give you a lift mate. Regarding the cost, it's £20 for an Am but an extra £5 for only being an associate member so £25 for the tourney if you're not having lunch. Camping prices haven't been confirmed yet but if think will be coming soon. Looking at the website for the Bellhaven campsite, for the Friday and Saturday night, you'd be looking at £30 or 40 depending on if you want electric hookup.

Regarding the BDGA membership though mate, I'd definitely recommend joining mate as it's £20 for the first year and means you get (amongst other things like your rating) £5 off each tourney so if you did attend 4 this year, that's your membership fee saved ;)

There is camping on the course as well, if memory serves that's £5pn (if your tenting it) there are toilets and a shower but that's it. Might find most ppl will use the actual camp site seamus mentioned to share the 7 person room option tho.

BTW, if ppl are looking to do that, let me know if there's a spare spot in a room :-P

Glad you're interested
Just to confirm Robbnot which division are you choosing? "a bit crap" or "a bit crap at a high level"? I'd choose the latter but I'm not allowed to participate because the Open side of tourney is a B-Tier.

I'll post camping information as soon as it's available, stay tuned.

I've just had a look at the new course map on the website and have to see I'm salivating to see and play the new 9, 10, 11 & 12. The temp holes in the just-wang-it-big-field are no more, replaced with holes in that area of mature forest that lookedripe for some awesome golf. Of course a signicant amount of clearing work was required to make the space playable so once agian i think we'll be cap-doffing to Seamus for all his ground works.

I'll post a more accurate map on our website, Hole 1 will be Par 4 180 meters +/- over the water, drop zone will be old tee 1, the basket will stay put on the hill (where it can be seen from the A1 ;) )

Peace

Really good stuff Seamus loving to see cash prizes in tour events, just a sign of a growing sport. Will most certainly try and be there!

Burt, you would need to get a bus from the airport into the city centre, the get a bus or train from Edinburgh to Dunbar - its then about 2miles to the course. If you go on scotrail website u can get train details.

What times your flight? The airport is a 10 main detour for me coming from Glasgow. Alternatively if u get your self to Dunbar its a five minutes drive for any one at the course to pick you up from the station.

Hope thus helps a little.
