BDGA#4 Isle of Mull Classic Disc Golf Championships 2014

Post by Charlie Mead » Tue Nov 12, 2013 2:42 pm

Dear All,

Please find below the Invitation to the Mull Classic 2014 - April 19th and 20th. If you are intending to come please register, book transport and accommodation as soon as possible. Easter is three weeks later than last year and will coincide with the start of the holiday season and Mull Eagle Watch

Disc Zoo and Fanmore Discgolf is pleased to Host the
22nd Classic Scottish Open
19th and 20th April 2014-
Fanmore, Isle of Mull, PA73 6LX, Scotland.
Tournament Director – Charlie Mead

This year sees the 22nd Isle of Mull Disc Golf Championships. As last year the event will be on the Easter holiday weekend, this year at the end of April giving all players more opportunity and flexibility in coming to this beautiful island, visiting its wonders and playing at this long established event on the BDGA Tour. As for the last two years we will be combining with Burnlaw (April 26th and 27th) to make this a Northern Flights special – another chance to play the two most established northernmost BDGA Tour events on back to back weekends.

Last year’s 21st Birthday was a present for all those who came! This event is ripe with history – from its inception in 1981 through to the first event in 1992, moving from snow posts to baskets, surviving the foot and mouth year and where many overseas players as well as Tour players have graced the slopes of Gremlin’s Croft. And this year will repeat the full European Championship course set up with tee-mats, new tee-signs and maximum exposure for the event. This year we already have a group of Finnish DG Champions entered - come take them on!

The course at Fanmore is set over steep croft land, with outstandingly beautiful coastal and mountain views all around, and totally exposed to the weather. There are few trees, but with the elevation changes and wind, the course provides a huge challenge to players, the likes of which you will not experience anywhere else on the British Tour. Once again we offer every player four rounds over both 18 hole courses - the Classic 18 and the Up and Over Course; as well as the sixth Mull Masters Division Championship!

We hope we have re-established Mull as an essential part of the BDGA Tour. The opportunity to visit one of Scotland’s most beautiful islands - to experience the hospitality of locals, their food, drink and generosity as well as play a few holes of golf – should not be missed.
It is a great location for an extended break with family and friends – last year we had 5 father-son pairings – it would be great to see more this year! And the chance to win Gremlin’s Chutney is open to everyone!

Keep up to date with what is happening on the BDGA Forum ‘Mull’ thread and on Facebook.

4x18 holes over two days
6 hole final for the top 5 in the Open, Masters and Amateur divisions – Intermediate and Advanced

Archive material from 2013

Post by Charlie Mead » Tue Nov 19, 2013 6:58 pm

This is a call for any photos or memorabilia that can be included in the Mull website from last year's tournament - that is 2013 (I know, it's still this year). Please send any material, scribblings, pics etc to Nige Williams so he can put it into the Archive pages of the Mull website!

And if there are any of you who have materials from 1992 onwards and not sent it to us yet please have a look....we are still short of results from a few years - especially late 1990's - and any/all photos very welcome.

Thanks -

Registration at 5!

Here's to a great NewYear and a successful Tour in 2014. I hope all of you who are planning to come to Mull April19th and 20th are well ahead with your arrangements for accommodation.

As mentioned earlier because Easter is late this year (good for weather prospects) it means a lot more people than usual will be on the Island at that time.

Remember we are part of the Northern Flights week - back to back with Burnlaw -and there will be Registration Fee reductions and Discs available for those that make both!

Enjoy a mean '14!

Right, I think i'm going to need to seek some help getting on and off the island and to burnlaw, also is there a Glasgow day inbetween?
I'm booked to fly to Glasgow on Thursday 17th will prob get the scenic train to Oban but would like to meet someone for a lift onto the island, accommodation either bunk house or possibly Lofts with Tom Lowes, after this car space to glasgow and onto burnlaw, I guess some sight seeing should be planned inbetween as well. does anyone fancy joining me or offering me some lifts? I have a flight booked back from Newcastle at 9pm after burnlaw.

Hey,

I can confirm there will be an event in glasgow on the thursday between mull and burnlaw this year I need to speak to chris who is td for the event before posting full details.

I'm also planning on both mull & burnlaw this year, so can assist with transport between glasgow and both tourneys. I wont be heading to mull until friday morning however. So if any one wants to help with fuel costs that would be great! :-P

Chris, I think Neal Clifton's hoping for that option but I'm not sure he uses this forum much.

Dear All,

Registrations are ratcheting up and we are close to 20 already - and I hear that there are a lot of you out there that are hoping to come and play….

…….so can you please register now (or as soon as possible) as I want to make sure the players packs are ordered well in time. I know you would be disappointed if there weren't enough discs to go round!

Northern Flights Commemorative Disc

Post by Charlie Mead » Sun Mar 09, 2014 9:28 pm

The Northern Flights commemorative Disc is back. Each player who attends both events not only gets a £5 reduction per event - Mull and Burnlaw - but will get agree Northern Flights disc.

If you can't make it to both events - or indeed to neither of them - then the discs will still be available to buy from event sponsor DiscZoo. Check out the Mull website for the design - courtesy of Paul Holden two years ago - with a change to text but not to the overall look! It will be a Latitude 64 River in White with a variety of foil colour stamps - though the gold ones will be reserved for the winners of each division.

Register now - you know it makes sense.

BDGA#4 Isle of Mull Classic Disc Golf Championships 2014

Post by Charlie Mead » Mon Mar 24, 2014 8:58 pm

Only four weeks to go until Mull is over - so don't miss it! Register now.

I understand there is still room in the bunk houses and hall at Dervaig - contact Chris O'Brien or directly to me if you have any questions.
All the planning is done - so all we need is you!

Looks like Steve Cox will have an easy ride in the Ad Ams this year unless the rest of you take up the challenge to actually play….

Check out the website below for Course and Hole maps - download them onto your phone for easy on-course access.

Trophies:

Can all trophy winners from last year remember to bring their trophies with them if they are returning. If not please give them to anyone who is coming (see Registered Players list on the web). If you can't arrange that then please let us know so we can make arrangements.

Thanks very much ….looking forward to seeing you all on the Isle.

Hi Charlie. I won't be making it to Mull but will be at Burnlaw and am very interested in getting one of these discs. Will they be available at Burnlaw or will I need to get them straight from the website. Also how much will they be?

Thanks

News Update

Post by Charlie Mead » Tue Apr 01, 2014 7:09 pm

Well, we have reached the 25 mark at Registration - so with locals we are already over 30 players! This year we already have the largest Open field for many years - 11 and rising - but there seems to be a lack of Ad Am's. Surely not going to give Steve Cox the title as well as a great shot at the title for the Qaich Tour!

Plenty of time to make up your mind - 18 days to go!!! With the return of Si Luard and Seonaidh Charity (both can regard themselves as past locals as well as winners) this is already a special year for me so any other lost souls would be welcomed back too! You know you want to.
