BDGA Tour 2013

Post by Phil Wood » Mon Sep 24, 2012 12:37 pm

Hi All,

I have put out a call to last seasons TD's regarding next seasons tour. However if you have a course or would like to run a tournament please pm me or get in touch as I would love to get some fresh events in the calander.

I'm hoping to be able to publish the full schedule before the end of the year, so all will have plenty of time to plan which events you will be playing.

thanks,

Phil

It's a shame that not many are in school holidays. Burnlaw is the only one in the middle of a holiday. Northern Ireland is the first weekend of summer holiday and QP might be in the last weekend. Personally speaking I would probably go to NI if it was further into the summer hols. More importantly does the lack of a tournament in school holidays limit the potential for our younger players to be invovled?

Excellent work on the schedule, Phil. Two questions:

1. Would it be possible to suggest a date for Nationals 2013 please? In past years it's usually been the weekend before the clocks go back, which in 2013 is 19/20 Oct.

2. Will one of these events list above be the British Open, or will that be a seperate event?

All valid, and certainly something that can be factored into future schedules. We are ultimately dictated by when TD's can run events additionally there is, as i understand, some regional differences in school holidays so never going to please everybody.

Yes there are some slight differences with half terms in different parts of the country. It would be nice to see a tournament in the middle of the summer holidays though especially at one of the more public courses as would also help with raising profile of the game due to likely better weather and more people out and about?

A compromise with the school holidays for this year would be to organise a series of one day events, certainly I was thinking of doing one at QP, organised well in advance so that the local non touring players and rookies get to see its happening and plan for it.

If there were a series of one dayers at different courses this summer it would probably suit younger players better than the 2 day events, and as long as there are enough regular players should still be good for ratings?

I was also thinking of having 2 seperate rounds, so people only had to commit to a morning, or afternoon round. Which might encourage new or casual players, and there could be a morning and afternoon rookie prize, as well as an overall winner? Plus other side competitions, like ring of fire, or even start the day with a bit of coaching, and as its the summer it could stretch into the evening.

Could be a way to utilise places without a permanent course, or a good player base yet as well, showcase the sport and draw in some locals to build a player base?
Glasgow, Liverpool, Brighton, etc.?

There are, as always, a number of factors dictating when events can take place. Given the limited number of juniors we have coupled with their parents having to work in any case, I'm not really sure how much of a factor holidays are to weekend events? Sure, for those where Friday travel is essential I understand the issue, but I'd see Juniors as more likely to play their local event as opposed to being touring players. Whilst I have taken some time off this year to travel to events it has largely been for the luxury of practice, rather than make-or-break on whether I could attend. But I'm not a parent, so maybe I'm missing something.

Public courses in the height of summer are a safety issue due to foot traffic/picnickers etc. I take your point re: publicity, and whilst there's the adage about no such thing as bad publicity, I'm not sure a Firebird in your sandwiches does much to endear us! :)

Jester, I'm not 100% yet on what we're doing with the BO. I was going to run it in the spring QP event and may well still do so, but it's up in the air as to whether it will be EuroTour or not. Which might spawn its own thread in a minute.

Jester, BO and Nationals need volunteers to run them.

For the BO any interested parties have till friday to send through a bid.

For Nationals, date depends on the host but im sure it will be around this date.

All, some changes to the schedule. apologies if this affect some peoples plans, but im trying to have these things sorted as early as possible.

Frostbreaker is now confirmed as 23/24th Feb meaning spring QP has been moved to an earlier date of 2/3rd Feb.

im just waiting on some confirmation but we may also be getting the Whitcombe classic back this summer! just waiting on a few things to fall into place. watch this space.

Exciting season ahead! Great work Phil and td's. hoping by some chance the whitcombe classic can fall into place 27th and 28th, then can come down with the boys, as a) the schools will have broken up a week before, and 2) it wouldn't clash with the euro open (Nokia Finland)

It's a shame that Burnlaw has slipped forward into April - slap bang in the middle of the Easter Holiday. I shan't be getting permission to attend that one!

Just 4 events possible for me in 2013 - hey ho...

Hi guys

My buddy and I are up for playing the second BDGA tour in Whitcombe next year. Would we be welcome to participate? If we are, then I would like to double check that the dates are set in stone before i book any tickets, i.e. 23–24 February?

Thanks!

Jared
