BDGA Tour #1 - Frostbreaker 2012 - Feb 4/5th

Post by TobyGreen » Fri Jan 06, 2012 7:44 pm

Frostbreaker will be on February 4th and 5th - best if you start reserving beds and floorspace in the Summer House now. email me toby.green@wanadoo.fr.

Full details and invitation available here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CDR ... V-L5E/edit

Frostbreaker will this year be a fund-raiser tournament for Friends of Della and Don http://www.friendsofdellaanddon.com

Friends of Della and Don
A great friend of mine who was caught in the tsunami and was saved by a fisherman runs this micro-charity to help tsunami orphans and street-kids in Sri Lanka. Having raised money to buy the fisherman a new boat, she now helps educate and care for orphans and street kids in the area. I will donate £5.00 for every person who plays in Frostbreaker, which means by playing you will feed one child for a month. I invite you all to get sponsors for your scores – say 5p or 10p for every throw? Ten pounds buys a child a uniform, shoes and books without which they can’t go to school. Go on, play golf and feed and educate an orphan or street kid in Sri Lanka at the same time!

From the looks of things there will be a number of first timers to whitcombe signing up. Please note the following:

Very important:
Parking
Please park only in the enlarged car park provided at the top of the Farm drive. Please do not drive or park anywhere else on the Farm, including the drive.

Whitcombe is a working farm that we are very fortunate to be allowed to play on a couple of times a year. Please be aware of this and use common sense, if a gate is closed when you come to go through it close it again after you. If it is Open, leave it open. Don't climb on the fences, there are always stiles or other ways around.

Generally please exercise the utmost respect for your surroundings so we can continure to enjoy this beautiful course.

This makes the ideal excuse for bad scores: "I was doing my bit for charity!"

The invite refers to a reduced fee for early registration, but I suspect the fee quoted IS the reduced fee, and there might be a £5 late fee to add on. That would be pretty much in line with last year, but Toby might clarify. I've transfered £20 as a BDGA Touring member.

Last year there was some confusion over what was OB. Might be worth outlining it in advance on this forum, so that any queries can be addressed in advance. Just an idea.

On late fee - not this year since everything is rather late! But please get your registrations in as soon as you can - it'll help me plan lunches!

On OB - not sure what the problem was last year - can't remember, must be getting old. Can someone refresh my memory?

Toby - I think it was last year when you said you would keep the OB simple, just the boundary of the farm, but then a few questions arose which extended it to e.g. farmhouse and garden, and summerhouse and surrounds, pheasant pen, and there may be an inner fence near the boundary as well as a boundary fence, etc. If we play some of the fields as being OB on certain holes, then there's lots more consider. OB is rarely as simply defined as one might think or hope, and it's best to try and deal with any potential questions here rather than deal with them at the players meeting.

Derek, thanks. This means I'm going to have to plan the course without actually being there - that'll be fun!

That's thirty-two registrants including three Americans, one Scot, a perfidy of Englishmen and one don't know.
