Instuctors and Disc Golf Qualifications

Post by Cooper » Sun Oct 16, 2016 9:20 pm

Do any instructional courses exist to train people to become instructors? If so, what do they cost? Does this have to happen through the BDGA, PDGA etc? Trying to find out more but struggling to find any information, i think it should be prudent for the growth of the sport.

I think Catch the Spirit might have had something like that - - try Chris O'Brien, maybe?

Other countries have developed their own Disc Sports qualifications - e.g.

More general coaching info - ... d-training

Not sure where we are as a body with regards to Disc Golf-specific coaching awards/qualifications.

I did the training course that Chris CTS delivers (the one in your link in fact, big thanks to Paul C)
This is it ... ing-course
It is a great course, I thoroughly recommend it,
I've used Chris' lesson as a basic structure for newbies and afterschool clubs, and the one to one coaching with my locals seems to be working well with couple of tour winners, and a generally good level of players, considering we have no open players at our course,

Also I believe the BDGA endorse the course, see t-shirt

Thanks both,

I have seen this site:

and a lot of Ultimate Coaching courses, but none for Disc Golf. It would be good to get something moving within the BDGA around this arena - all sports have coaches / lessons which helps provide additional income for local clubs, for any sports person who wants to make extra money, growth of the sport, fitness and personal development. It could also really help clubs to get additional grants from councils etc..

Maybe over the course of the next year we can all look to building a standard and qualification scheme? Off the top of my head, two mandatory requirements for any coaches that would want to be qualified are paticipation and a pass in a Safe Guarding course and have have a successfull CRB check.

Would anyone be interested in helping build this at all? Is there an appetite within the BDGA in creating a structured coaching qualification scheme?
