How about imagining that you have an onion bag full of geckos and bechamel sauce, wrapped in vine leaves. Any spin on the disc will cause the sauce to fly out of the sides, and too much nose up or nose down will leave the geckos feeling dizzy and result in them fidgeting inside the vine leaf, making the whole package unstable. If you then imagine that the basket is in fact a portal into another dimension, then any deviation away from the line directly at the heart of the 'portal' will mean that the Great Lord of Darkness and his Minions of Unpredictability will not get a full portion of stuffed vine leaf - and we all know what can happen when the Great Lord doesn't get his supper!

Hope this helps.
