Winter Doubles Matchplay; 5th February

Post by TheGroover » Sun Dec 18, 2005 9:54 pm

Evening all,

There's a Winter Doubles Matchplay tourny, organised by Oxdisc (ie, Bud's doing everything, and some of the rest of us tag along and make soup).

Anyway, it's Sunday 5th Feb, a great warm up for Frostbreaker the following weekend.

Where is it? East Leigh Sheep Bridge.

Where the hell's that? Somehwere in the Cotswolds. Right now, I don't know the exact details, but I'll post those when I have them. I haven't been, but all the people I know who have played the course (and it's not just Bud) reckon it's a place that's comparable to Toby's course, so it should be pretty exciting.

Contact details are Bud or myself.

I'll post proper and exact details in January, but for the time being, book some time for a good Sunday event....

Andy

How about some international competition??

I'll be in the UK on business for the month of Feb, so I'm looking forward to this one. See if one of us Yanks can compete :)

I'll be in the Chelmsford, Essex area. How far away is that from East Leigh Sheep Bridge?

I'm not sure Scott but if you contact Fernando Brown with Discology he would be able to help you. He lives in Essex and goes to quite a few events. Also Scott Reek with Under Par disc golf may also be able to answer any further questions regarding location as he is also in Essex.

Scott -

Being in Chelmsford you will be closest to the course at the University of Essex. Check it out at http://www.essexdiscgolf.co.uk

There are usually some of us out playing every weekend. So while you are out here, we should be able to set something up so we can show you around.

Definately let us know. We are usually at essex and if we know someone is coming, we will generally make sure someone is there.

Awesome guys. I'm looking forward to it! I'll be in Essex Jan 30th - Feb 26, so I'm planning on playing as much as possible on the weekends. A friend of mine played the University of Essex course and he liked it, but he said it was confusing to find all of the holes, so I would welcome a guide or two to show me around. (now I see the course map online, so that should help)

Are there any events at the Essex course during my stay?

Hi Scott,

Chelmsford is only a 20 minute train journey away from Colchester, you can hop on a bus from there direct to the University or contact myself, i live near the station, and i may be able to pick you up from the station if i'm free, but for your first venture, even though the map is accurate it would be better to play that first round with someone who knows the course and i'm sure we can sort this out for you, just holla when you make the trip. We have no plans for any events whilst you are in Essex, but people play the course every weekend. The one in the Cotswolds would most likely require a car and will take you approx 4 hours to get there from Chelmsford.

Hope that helps and you have a safe journey across the pond.

If anyone wants to see the live Googlemap version they can click http://jons-box.co.uk/BDGAMap.html

Might build a nice big version labelling all the tour locations.... that might be nice!

What are the odds of someone being available to show me around the course next tuesday?

I will be in the US for the doubles, but will be in Oxford on Tuesday.

Though it was worth a shot at least.

Do you mean show you round the Cotswolds course, or one of the Oxford courses?

I assume you mean the Cotswold course, coz you surely know the Oxfordcity courses as much as you want to.

I doubt I'll be able to justify taking time off on Tuesday to show you round. The only possibility really is Bud, depending on his shift pattern at the BMW factory.

I may be able to do a quick 12 round South Park on Tuesday lunchtime, though, if you want:

I just arrived in the UK yesterday. I really want to play this weekend, but I'm going to give my aching back another week to heal, so I'm thinking the weekend of the Feb 11-12 for a round (or two) at the U of Essex course.

any takers for showing me around? :)

Thanks,
Scott

Hi Scott,

It's always a pleasure to show another DGer around our courses at Essex so i'll gladly be your guide and there should be a few other players out and about, just let me know when and how you're going to get here and we can sort the detail out.

Generally we meet in the morning around 9.30/10 for a round, lunch and a beer at the SU bar followed by another round or so, either day works for me, but if you are using the trains make it down on the Saturday as Sundays can be erratic for train services.

Just remember to drive on the right side of the road  and you'll be fine. when you get to the University which is signposted from Colchester, if in doubt head for signs to Wivenhoe, use the visitors car park, which is signposted also and free to use at the weekend and i'll see you there, if you get lost or are running late my mobile number is 0787 6088 177.

See you on the 11th

To date just about every American that visits the UK and has Tim show them around the course, has whipped him on it. Will the tradition continue?

I thought there was something strange about the way he walked. That explains it...
