Boomhill Open 13th- 14th Aug 2005

A big thanks to all players for competing in a challenging yet thoroughly enjoyable open tournament. The Open, which traditionally coincides with Farmer Phils festival was kicked off with some heavy rock and Blues on Friday evening. Players, after poking their heads into the smoky music tent and witnessing dancing of ‘questionable quality’, soon returned to the humble retreat of Buds touring tent. Play the following day was to kick off with the ‘Long Eighteen’. The 2 nd Open Tournament in the bright history of Boomhill began with a considerably gloomy morning. Gloomy turned to showers, showers turned to rain and rain to a raging windy torrent. Two holes in and some of the most savage disc golf conditions ensued.

Pull out the dx plastic and disc towels for a morning of slippery rips……

Despite the conditions, the morning 18 produced some excellent play, though the disc morale of some was waning. Trailing behind the ever hardy Woody Harding the NoMaDS took some excellent scores despite their whines, whilst Chloe de Poix was emotionally traumatised by the stench of the BoomHill Bog! Nige Williams pushes ahead with an excellent 69 given the days conditions, followed closely by Matt Pike, Dan Massey, Woody Harding and Bud Tilton.

Play commenced on day two after it was agreed the dry of The Bridges pub would make a better location for the afternoon rounds of Saturday! On Sunday, players were treated to two rounds of the ‘Village Nine’ in beautiful sunshine. Great disc golf, clear views of the surrounding countryside, and a very close field after the first nine. The final 9 was played in an excellent 25 by Woody Harding but it was Nige Williams who walked away with the coveted Boomhill Trophy after consistently well played golf.

Unsurprisingly Chloe de Poix won the Spirit Award for sticking at it on Saturday…. and not puking on the green.
