Tournaments in Slovakia

Post by Del » Thu Feb 12, 2015 9:18 pm

Last year I played the Smolenice Open and had a great time on a great course (and I won, which was nice :) . I can thoroughly recommend playing overseas events, and Slovakia is cheap to get to and cheap to stay too. Ryanair fly to Bratislava from Birmingham, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Luton, and Stansted. You will have a ton of fun and make some new friends. I'm forwarding the following message from Richard Kollar...

Dear fellow disc golfer,

have you ever been golfing in Slovakia? If yes, we hope you will come back, and if not it is time to fix it.
We would like to invite you to four upcoming disc golf tournaments in Slovakia that offer a wide variety of different settings. Further tournament info and registration can be found on
discgolf.sk/statistics

and on the dedicated tournament websites

We hope we will see you there!

Richard

---------------
-> PDGA C "Budmerice Open", April 18-19
The traditional Slovak disc golf season opener offers a lot of golf: 3 x 24 + 6 holes in a wonderful park around now desolated Budmerice Castle, a former house of Slovak writers. Close to Bratislava, friendly atmosphere, a good competition of the top Slovak, Czech and Austrian players. Shorter holes (mostly 70-90 m) are great for female players.
Registration opens on February 26, tournament capacity 48 players.

-> PDGA C "BTS Urban Mayday", May 1-3
This year the state holiday on May 1 is on Friday and we are going to change the extended weekend to a disc golf fest right in Bratislava. The new challenging technical course with moderate elevation changes and an average hole length over 100 meters brings disc golf to urban settings in a mixed urban/park space around the university.
Come and enjoy spring playing disc golf during the night and visiting the big free Bratislava Music.Culture festival Bratislavsky majales in the evening. Mayday, mayday!

More info on the tournament website: http://rkfrisbee.wix.com/2015btsmayday
Registration opens on March 5, tournament capacity 45 players.

-> PDGA C "Smolenice Open", June 6-7
One of the longest and most challenging european courses in a disc golf heaven is for many years in Smolenice. The Hole #1 in the finals is played from the castle tower, an unforgettable experience. This year we plan many improvements and expect a high quality players. The tournaments location is a short ride from Bratislava and it is close to Czech, Austrian and Hungarian border. This is definitely a tournament you don't wanna miss in your DG career.

Registration opens on April 9, tournament capacity 72 players.

-> PDGA C "Makov Open", July 4-5
North Slovakia is a famous touristic region offering great hiking in Summer and terrific skiing in Winter. But during the July 4-5 it offers something very different - disc golf. The first part of the course is set on secluded hilly meadows with views of multiple mountain ranges just next to a small historical village with wooden architecture.
The second part is on a ski slope and offers even more great views. Most of the holes are 100m+ long and they will certainly test a big variety of your shots. Accommodation is in comfy Ski Apratments next to the ski slope. The meadows up on the hills are so secluded that the lunch for the players is delivered there by a jeep. Definitely something special.
Registration opens on May 7, tournament capacity 48.

I won't be making the trip myself, but here's a message from Richard Kollar...
just a short announcement that the registration for the PDGA C tournament 2015 Makov Open is already open.
The tournament that will serve this year also as 2015 Slovak Discgolf Championships and will be held on July 4-5 is located on the hills of northern Slovakia, about 2 hours away from Bratislava. It provides beautiful views and a big variety of challenging holes. The location of the course is so remote, that lunch is every year delivered directly to the course during the lunch break. On the other hand, accommodation is very comfortable in the SkiApartments Makov, that co-organize the event.
The registration page is at
