Re: What is the BDGA?

I think the BDGA should attract the majority of players who compete in events, be they Tour events or one day events, and hopefully a good number of non-competitors who none-the-less want to keep informed and show their support. If the BDGA only attracts Touring players as members, then in my opinio...

Re: Eurotour 2016

Thanks Seamus! Great tournament. The course was at its picturesque best, with fresh green leaves and bluebells bathed in brilliant dappled sunlight. All ran very smoothly as far as I could see. Take a look at the British Disc Golf photography page on facebook or https://renewestenberg.smugmug.com/Fr...

Re: Eurotour 2016

I'm looking to book accommodation, just thought I'd put a quick shout out and see if anybody has a spare bed, before I make my own arrangements.

Re: Tour format idea

The logic of the current BDGA divisions was to get 3 viable divisions with similar numbers of competitors and similar spreads of ratings, so that they could compete with their peers and hopefully have a reasonable shot at getting in a final or winning a prize if they had a good tournament. If we don...

Re: Tour format idea

A couple of other strategic choices of direction spring to mind, especially given that demand for places at Croydon is so strong. 1. Demand for places at an elite 4 to 6 events will probably be very strong. To what degree do we move to raise the bar for entrants. Many possibilities here:- A. Don't o...

Re: BDGA National Director Review

I'm wondering whether I should have just sent a private message. I'm not wanting to antagonize or demand things. I am concerned about there being a more coherent strategy, and that's not just a matter for James, it's for all BDGA members to contribute to and buy into, but of course it's the National...

BDGA National Director Review

It's coming up to 6 months since James election to National Director. No doubt it has been a learning experience, some priorities will have changed, some ideas developed, and new opportunities may have presented themselves, and new problems too (whatever happened to the revised constitution?). Meanw...

Re: Conflict of interest policy

Going back to the Development leads I'm a bit concerned that nobody has chimed in to say that they have had leads directed their way by the BDGA. Maybe they have, but have not said, or maybe they have had leads which came via the BDGA but didn't know that was how the enquirer knew of their existence...

Re: Conflict of interest policy

Yes, the BDGA should have a Conflict of Interest policy. This is standard practice in many organisations - I've submitted my annual declaration at University of Warwick this week. We have to make a statement every year, even if there are no conflicts to declare.

Tournaments in Slovakia

Richard Kollar has advised me of the following dates for tournaments in Slovakia April 9-10, Budmerice Spring Fling (PDGA C) April 30 - May 1, BTS Urban Mayday (PDGA C) June 11-12, Smolenice Open (PDGA C) July 2-3, Makov Open (PDGA C) October 15-16, Hlohovec Slovak Open (PDGA C) and September 24-25,...

Re: Tour format idea

Nothing is permanent, Seamus. Not even Mulls place on the tour, and I have been to every single tournament there. It's one of the most exhilarating places to play, and if the presence of the tour served to bolster a local player base then it's case would be much stronger. I like the fact that Seamus...

Open De Espana

The Spanish Open is taking place in Oviedo in northern Spain on Feb 20-21, which unfortunately clashes with Whitcombe. Gary O'Malley and I went last year and had a brilliant time. It's a great course, nice atmosphere, and the weather is likely to be warmer than back in the UK. There are direct fligh...

Re: BDGA National Matchplay champs and cornwall open 23/24th

Just to clarify my point about hole 4 and some holes where length did not make for good design. Long holes can be entirely legitimate and being able to throw far should bring advantage on a golf course. However a long hole which involves 2 (or 3 in my case) consecutive full power throws with no stra...

Re: BDGA National Matchplay champs and cornwall open 23/24th

Here's what I know.. 1. Dan Ryan with 2 or 3 holes to spare 2. Matt Cutler 3. Sam Stevens 4. Charlie Mead 5. Si Luard 6. James Luton 7. Steve Cox 8. Derek Robins The course has a great variety of terrain: open areas, copses, woodland, and plenty of undulations with some big views over the estuary to...

Re: BDGA#10 - Quarry Park Open - 3/4 Oct 2015

A couple of things for all visitors to bear in mind 1. There is no access to the course via the driveway of the Clinic, so please use only the main entrance to Quarry Park. 2. Fortunately we have had dry weather and the ground conditions are ok for people to drive to the camping area behind the 17th...

Re: BDGA Board Elections 2015

It's good to see James putting his hat in the ring for the National Director role. My comments on the manifesto: 1. No change required to voting procedures, Board should use Forum, Newsletter and facebook etc to sound out membership on any contentious issues. 2. It's not a BDGA role to design course...

Cheap flights to Skelleftea - play a world class course

Last month I played the Scandinavian Open in Skelleftea in the north of Sweden. I've wanted to play there for many years as it has produced many of Europe's top golfers including Jesper Lundmark - best European player ever imo, Tomas Ekstrom - first European to win a PDGA world title (doubles); and ...
