Re: Bdga National Match Play Championships

The core of the BDGA Nationals overall event is the Top 16 matchplay event. It has grown organically to include additional aspects to cater for those outside the Top 16, but the principle purpose has been, and will continue to be, to crown an overall BDGA matchplay champion. Thus it is probably bes...

Re: Bdga National Match Play Championships

Trevor, I think I've already made clear why it doesn't work. Matchplay is 1v1, it doesn't work many v many. We've done it at the Hyzer cup when we've had uneven numbers, it detracts from the event. Yes thanks Bruce I seem to remember having this debate before, your opinion is as always noted. Perha...

Re: Bdga National Match Play Championships

This is a genuine question and I'm not trying to fan the flames.

Other than historical reasons is there a reason the format cannot be different? Why not try something different? if it dosen't work than the BDGA has the evidence that it needs to keep the traditional format in the future.

Re: Trophy only fees

Thanks Bruce. I hope other TDs will follow your example.

Yes the OP was prompted by the euro tour fees and to be fair I had recognized that but it is not an isolated instance in my experience.

In this new era people will vote with their feet (as has been said).

Trophy only fees

I'd like to ask and encourage all TDs to consider ' trophy only' entry fees for "Pro"divisions. This is relevant to me because I want to play Masters this year but am put off by the potential higher fees being charged to play the MPM division. Specific to the MPM division I don't think we yet have t...

Not 100% sure I'm going but if I am I'd be up for this.

Re: Nationals 2016 - Manchester Oct 29-30

Sorry that's garbage. The matchplay format, by virtue of each round being standalone 1 vs 1 competitions, has very limited options in terms of how to apply it across a field of players. By all means come up with coherent formats for determining a champion over 4 rounds with every variant from 6-15 ...

Re: Nationals 2016 - Manchester Oct 29-30

Tom I though I might snare you with that comment - Its not negativity intentionally, its an honest observation about how discussions usually end up on the forum. I have made it clear that I don't think any change of format is appropriate for this year. Bruce and Tom, Running tournaments full stop us...

Re: Nationals 2016 - Manchester Oct 29-30

But 'back in the day' there were minimal events outside the Tour, little local scene etc. When the MODs 1 day event in Manchester attracted 30 players a month ago, there's no reason to think that there shouldn't be a highly popular strokeplay event alongside the T16. Back in the day you're correct....

Re: Nationals 2016 - Manchester Oct 29-30

I don't think the AGM has been at nationals for the last 4 or 5 years, it's typically the last tour event. Obviously this year it is, but it by no means has to be so that shouldn't be a factor. There have been plenty of Int ams at Nationals, because the format of having a PDGA rated strokeplay comp...

Re: Nationals 2016 - Manchester Oct 29-30

If the BDGA decides that a match play event is going to be the end of season closer and have associated AGMs etc at the same time then the player numbers can be worked around. For example by having capped / staged entry, or using varied format for odd numbers ( multiples of 3 works or playing agains...

Re: Inclusiveness

At the risk of being pretentious, patronising and winky woo (sorry mr moderator if this offends your delicate sensibilities ), the fact that three board members have entered the debate on this thread is fantastic. It helps BDGA members feel included. I don't agree with a lot of things said from the ...

Re: Inclusiveness

All good points that have been raised. I guess I could turn them on their head and ask: what do people want from the BDGA? I perceive a lot of pressure for us to do something , I'm just in no way close to figuring out what that something is... I'm really surprised you asked this, I could hear the c...
